Volunteers

General guidelines for those considering volunteering

·Treat all volunteers and all individuals we encounter at any portion of our interaction with respect and kindness.

·Follow the direction and guidance of organizers in our distribution efforts.

·We may encounter a wide variety of mental illnesses and substance abuse, at times individuals can be aggressive. Use existing social services programs to assist unsheltered individuals whenever possible, do not involve law enforcement unless there is a real and immediate threat of physical harm or death.

·Heed any direction of law enforcement or private property owners.

·All volunteers will be asked to wear a face mask at any point of interaction while acting as a volunteer for Unsheltered Utah, this begins at sorting and ends when the delivery is complete. We are protecting the most vulnerable and ourselves by following CDC recommendations. Masks will be provided for those who do not bring their own.

·We do not allow live streaming.

·Refrain from posting real-time updates that may give away any locations of camps or individuals on any form of social media. Please do not release the locations of any camps by address or landmark on public forums.

·Photos and videos of donation supplies and messages of gratitude for those that give to Unsheltered Utah are welcome.

·Photos and videos of preparation (gathering supplies, sorting) and personal recollections after the deliveries are complete may be shared for the intention of growing the movement, to encourage donations and to put a face on the reality that we see.

·If it may be viewed as exploitative, don’t post it. Discretion is our highest priority, when in doubt: don’t.

·Video interviews with unsheltered individuals may only take place under the direction and guidance of the board, complying with journalistic ethics and standards.

·Know who in the caravan is carrying nalaxone, in case of encountering an overdose.

·Volunteers will be asked to review and sign a liability waiver before engaging in activities with Unsheltered Utah.
